SHREVEPORT, La. – East Texas Food Bank Chief Development Officer Tim Butler stopped KTBS Friday to share information how it's working to help those in need and about special events that are coming up.
The organization, headquartered in Tyler, Texas serves 26 counties in East Texas. According to Butler, Texas has the highest population of food insecure people in the United States. Out of the entire state, East Texas has a higher-than-average rate of food insecure people. “One in five adults are at risk of hunger; one in four kids,” Butler said.
While the numbers are high, the organization is still making a huge impact. Last year, it served about 200,000 households in the area and served 34 million meals.
