WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is not under investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of Columbia, a spokesperson told WUSA9 Friday.

"Mayor Bowser is not under investigation, nor is she the target of any investigation," U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office said in a statement to WUSA9 late Friday afternoon.

But WUSA9 does not have an official comment from the Department of Justice about the status of a potential investigation by its office into Mayor Bowser's trip to Qatar.

The New York Times reported Thursday evening that federal prosecutors had been probing Bowser's Qatar trip for potential bribery or campaign finance violations. Hours later, Axios reported a Trump administration official said Bowser was not under investigation, blaming the rumor on a "disgr
