LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A retired UPS pilot said the plane that crashed Tuesday likely suffered an engine failure that made it impossible to fly.

Bill Kight, who flew for UPS from August 1989 to July 2020 as a 767 captain, said he believes the aircraft experienced an uncontained failure of the fan disk of either the number one or number two left engine that caused it to separate from the airframe.

“There was nothing that this crew, nothing that could prepare them for what they experienced,” Kight said.

Kight said the crash was not the result of inadequate training. He said UPS pilots receive superior training and the crew likely had some of the best training in the world.
