You can now be fined if you're caught speeding on a traffic camera in Minneapolis, but city officials say the early signs show the program is reducing the problem.

The City of Minneapolis says that the early signs show a 30% reduction in "high-risk speeding" near the five camera sites, which went live at the end of September.

As of Friday, the city will now start issuing fines for infractions. A first offense will see drivers given a warning. After that, drivers caught speeding will face a $40 fine for traveling between 10-19 mph over the speed limit, and an $80 fine for driving 20+ mph over the speed limit.
