LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- A company that operated fake websites for Mackinac Island attractions, including the ferry, will have to take them down, according to an agreement with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
According to Nessel, Texas company MTVRS, LLC, operated two fake websites advertising tickets for various Mackinac Island-related activities, violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act. One of the websites, fortmackinactickets.com, mimicked the official website and charged "marked-up" ticket prices.
Nessel also says a separate website, mackinacticketing.com, misled consumers into believing they were purchasing tickets for Shepler's Ferry from the company's own website. However, in reality, MTVRS charged an additional $7.95 fee before using customer payment info to purchas
