COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - City leaders broke ground on a new apartment complex that will provide affordable housing for middle to low-income families on Columbus’ south side.
The 52-unit complex will feature two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments. Developers have not set rental prices, but qualifying tenants will only pay 60 percent of the market rate.
“I can’t believe it, that it’s actually happening. You know this is actually a beautiful area,” said Pauline Johnson, a Columbus resident.
The $12 million project is expected to be completed in about a year. City leaders hope the development will inspire additional investment in south Columbus.
