MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - With freezing weather approaching this weekend, heating experts are urging homeowners to take preventive steps now to ensure their systems operate safely.
Brian West, co-founder of Home Comfort Experts, recommends checking air filters first. Homeowners should replace filters with new ones or clean existing filters every one to three months, depending on their condition.
West also advises turning on heating systems now, even if heat isn’t needed yet, to check for any problems before cold weather arrives.
Homeowners should inspect vents and flues for damage or blockages. West said animals and debris commonly obstruct these areas during warmer months.
“In the summertime, rodents, a bee’s nest may be in there. A bird may fly in and die in there. We find squirrels.
