The murder conviction for Lola Luna, who was found guilty in 2023 of killing fellow 16-year-old Syanna Puryear-Tucker in a fight outside a Bremerton home in 2021, was vacated by the Washington State Supreme Court on Oct. 30.
Luna remains incarcerated, according to her attorney, John Kanin, while a mandate for release is finalized to return her to Kitsap County, anticipated to take a few weeks. Kitsap County Prosecutor Chad Enright said a judge will then have the ability to set conditions of release, though another trial is possible. The vacation of a conviction is not the same as being found not guilty during a trial, and both Kanin and Enright said the legal process essentially takes Luna back to the time when she was initially arrested.
