NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After a recent uptick in traffic incidents, the New Orleans Police Department is working to reduce the amount.

According to the NOPD, this is one of the top concerns that the department has been getting from the community recently. The Traffic Division said they're seeing 450 hit-and-runs a month.

Along with this, the Traffic Division said each of their officers wrote over 400 citations over the past 10 days.

"We do want to minimize our crash load which is causing a burden on the officers not being able to respond to other calls which would mean district roles that are vital to everybody's safety," NOPD Capt. Anthony Micheu.

As a means to keep crashes to a minimum, the NOPD said they'll step up traffic patrols around school zones and similar areas.
