COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Nearly one in every 10 crimes in South Carolina last year was committed by a teenager or child.
That’s according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, which reports around 25,000 juveniles found themselves on the wrong side of the state’s criminal justice system in 2024.
A newly formed committee at the State House is taking a closer look at how to prevent juvenile crime in South Carolina, and they’re getting to work quickly.
“This is a really, really important topic for so many of us, particularly when we see the rise of so many young folks that are going out and committing violent crimes. There has to be a solution to this issue,” Rep. Kambrell Garvin, D – Richland, said.
