Students were kept inside across schools in a suburban district Friday amid reports of federal agents in the nearby area.

In a letter sent around 11:45 a.m. Friday to parents of students in the Park Ridge-Niles School District 64, Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins announced that students would be kept inside "during recess, PE, and lunch across the district."

"I am writing to let you know that we are aware of reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers being in Park Ridge neighborhoods near many of our schools," Collins said in the letter. "Law enforcement is not allowed to enter a school without a warrant or legal order. We will continue to monitor this situation throughout the day."

Collins clarified that no arrests were made on school property by federal agents.
