New Jerseyans struggling to put food on the table finally received delayed payments on Friday from the nation’s largest nutrition assistance program.

More than 800,000 New Jersey children and adults who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, began November with empty debit accounts as a result of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

However, on Thursday, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to find the money to fully fund SNAP benefits for November. The judge gave the administration until Friday to make the payments.

It’s good news for hundreds of thousands of families throughout New Jersey. But the relief is only temporary.
