WAYNE COUNTY, MI — Flight cancelations continue to increase at Detroit Metro Airport and at other select airports across the country.
Detroit Metro is one of 40 airports where airlines were ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration to cut flights by 10% as the federal government shutdown continues on.
The order, which went into effect on Friday, Nov. 7, is in response to air traffic controllers — who have been working unpaid since Oct. 1 — calling out of work in higher numbers as they deal with financial pressure, the AP reports.
As of 7 p.m. Nov. 7, there were 36 cancelations recorded and 98 delays affecting passengers planning to travel in and out of DTW on Friday, according to Flight Aware .
