LECOMPTE, La. (KALB) - Here in Cenla, the first freeze of the season is expected on Monday night into Tuesday morning (November 10-11).
With predicted temperatures near or below freezing, Jay Maloney, Head Grower at Poole Brother’s Nursery in Lecompte, said they have spent the past few weeks getting ready.
“The Poole Brothers Nursery has over sixty greenhouses and have been preparing for the cold for about two weeks,” said Maloney.
They’ve already busted out the plastic wrap, covering their greenhouses and have draped winter cloth over their plants outside, but Maloney said there’s one special trick they use to help keep their plants safe.
On cold winter nights, in true Louisiana fashion, Maloney said they run crawfish cookers inside the greenhouse to keep plants warm.
