MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Police say a man who committed bank fraud dressed like a firefighter to appear more trustworthy, but his outfit ultimately led to his capture.
MPD said Anthony Lewis, 47, was wearing a Shelby County Fire Department T-shirt and navy pants when he entered the Regions Bank on Germantown Road on Oct. 14 and tried to use a fake driver's license to withdraw $5,000 from the victim's account.
According to the affidavit of complaint, Lewis had fraudulently obtained money from Regions Bank multiple times over a two-week period, and each time Lewis was wearing the same Shelby County Fire Department shirt and navy pants.
The teller recognized Lewis from previous incidents and delayed the transaction until police arrived.
