ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — A Roane County jury convicted an inmate of attempting to smuggle drugs into the county jail while awaiting a transfer to begin a 33-year sentence for double murder, the Office of the Ninth Judicial District Attorney General said.
Lonnie Wright was found guilty of the introduction of contraband into a penal facility, a Class D felony that carries a sentence of two to 12 years in prison, according to the DA's Office.
Prosecutors said Wright created a plan with two co-defendants, Dustin McCarroll and Sara Huffman, to use the jail's mail system to smuggle Suboxone, a Schedule III controlled substance, into the facility. Wright intended to sell the drugs to other inmates for money, the DA's Office said.
