At Marian Residence Garden Homes, Sister Angela Dieringer sits with the peace and humor of someone who has seen a century of change.

Born on Sept. 28, 1925, the longtime Franciscan Sister recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and fellow sisters.

“Oh, my hundred years? That was in September,” she said with a smile. “I had a big celebration here. It was out in the yard over there, and then my family came. I don’t have very many left anymore, but my nieces and nephews came, and that was great.”

Next year, Sister Dieringer will mark another extraordinary milestone: her 80th Jubilee — the anniversary of her vows as a Sister of St. Francis.

“It’ll be my 80th year of being a Franciscan,” she said.

Her journey began in 1944, at just 18 years old.
