LAYTON — Tensions ran high in Layton Thursday night as the Davis County Commission held an open house to help members of the public understand their proposed 30% property tax increase .

County residents came to the meeting looking for answers and understanding, but what they found was a chaotic, overcrowded room at the Layton Library. Many were expecting a presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns. Instead, they were invited to approach various county departments and commissioners to ask questions.

Lanelle Butterfield came hoping to get a clear explanation of the proposed increase, but felt the format of the event was intentionally unclear.

“This is just a zoo, this is not a way to hear the public,” Butterfield said.
