BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - A Bloomington woman has opened a pantry on her front lawn to help those experiencing hardship while they wait for SNAP benefits to be released.

The Trump administration agreed to fully fund SNAP benefits on Friday . Still, the need for immediate aid remains.

Brittany Burkhart said people in her neighborhood are struggling to feed their families, and she said she wanted to help make sure children had food and essential items.

Burkhart set up a pantry on her front lawn, gathering non-perishable food items and hygiene products, and organizing them in filing cabinets to protect them from the weather.

She said, as a mother herself, she felt heartbroken for struggling families and that she needed to step up and do something to help her community.
