GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Gainesville High School teacher at the center of a controversial end-of-the-year superlative will be given the opportunity to respond to a state complaint.

Lauren Watts was removed from her classroom earlier this school year after the mother of a former student claimed her son was given a ‘Most Likely to become a Dictator’ award at the end of the 2023 school year.

Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas filed a probable cause complaint against Watts, calling for teaching certificate be revoked.

Watts, who is represented by a law firm from Tallahassee, alleged she was not given due process during the state’s investigation.
