Second-seeded Hunterdon Central and seventh-seeded East Brunswick battled through regulation and overtime to finish 2OT with a 0-0 tie during the quarterfinals of the Central, Group 4 tournament, in Flemington. The Red Devils outlasted East Brunswick to advance by winning the penalty shootout 7-6.
Hunterdon Central (13-4-2) will face third-seeded Old Bridge in the sectional semis on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The teams were tied 6-6 in the shootout when Red Devils goal Chase Reinhard made a diving save (his second of the PKs) to put his team in winning position. Colby Townsend sent Hunterdon Central to the semis by burying the next penalty in the right corner of the goal.
Reinhard made two saves in regulation.
The Bears end their season with a 12-8-1 record.
