TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A recall effort targeting four Benson city councilmembers is moving forward after months of concern from residents about a proposed aluminum plant and how their elected officials are handling it.
It’s a story 13 News first told you about in August, when community members started the recall petition amid a protest over the proposed facility.
The Committee for a Better Benson launched the recall campaign against the city’s mayor and four of the city’s six councilmembers, saying they haven’t done enough to hold the company behind the plant accountable.
Kathryn Townsend, the Chairperson for Better Benson, said the councilmembers failed to properly oversee the zoning and permitting process for Aluminum Dynamics Inc., the company behind the aluminum smelting plan
