WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Middle Georgia Community Action Agency (MGCAA), a lifeline for nearly 2,000 families across Central Georgia, has paused some of its critical programs amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The agency provides job training, housing and food assistance , prescription support and more. However, executive director Tammy Sosebee said their $607,000 annual federal funding has been frozen, forcing the pause.
“It’s not like we’re giving handouts. We’re trying to give people a hand up,” Sosebee said.
She said the shutdown has brought stress and uncertainty.
“We’ve lost sleep over this, and we’re trying to be very careful and very good stewards with what we have been given,” Sosebee said. “I worry about my staff and I worry about those people out there.”
