AUSTIN, Texas — The state of Texas is marking a tragic milestone. Nearly a dozen people have lost their lives on Texas roads every day for the past 25 years.
So, on this tragic anniversary, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and families of those killed gathered at the Texas Capitol for a candlelight vigil to remember the lives lost and to talk about ending the streak.
“Each one of those lives represents a family, a friend, a community all changed forever,” TxDOT Deputy Executive Director Brandye Hendrickson said.
Every single day for the past quarter century, families have lost mothers, fathers, sons and daughters in crashes on Texas roads.
“These are not random events,” Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee said. “These are the results of Texans making the wrong choices
