WEST COVINA — La Canada started fast and never looked back in picking up its first playoff victory since 2004, a 30-14 win over fourth-seeded West Covina in a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 first-round game Friday night.
The Spartans (10-1) will travel to Barstow next Friday for a quarterfinal game.
Led by quarterback Joe Bell and running back C.J. Mattmann, the Spartans jumped out to a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
“It was critical to start fast,” Spartans coach Dave Avramovich said. “They worked so hard in practice this week, and they were ready. They really executed well. I’m really proud of them.”
