A special session to address the use of state funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in New Mexico is scheduled for Monday, amid mixed reactions from both political parties and the announcement that the United States Department of Agriculture and President Donald Trump will release federal SNAP funding following a court ruling, which was later temporarily paused by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Roadrunner Food Bank is preparing for the possibility of losing SNAP funding entirely, which they say would be a worst-case scenario for many New Mexicans.
Jason Riggs, director of advocacy and public policy at Roadrunner Food Bank, said, "We're doing what we do. We're trying to source as much food as possible."
