Kainoa Fili scored on a four-yard touchdown run in overtime to send Kelso to a 13-10 win over Federal Way in a 3A state preliminary playoff game in Kelso.
It was a defensive battle as Federal Way outgained Kelso 252-169, and Kelso’s only points during regulation came on Blake Larwick’s 16-yard interception return in the second quarter.
But Federal Way tied the game 7-7 on a Zamarie Tellez’s 24-yard touchdown run with 5:23 left in the fourth quarter.
Neither team was able to threaten the rest of regulation, sending the game into overtime tied 7-7.
Jeremiah Harrison Overton got Federal Way to the Kelso 6 on the Eagles’ first play in overtime, but the Kelso defense held from there.
