ALMONT – After a first-round exit last season, Almont is making up for that early departure in many ways.
The undefeated Raiders (11-0) captured their sixth district championship since 2008 Friday night, topping 10th-ranked Marine City 27-0 to record a rare shutout against the Mariners.
Marine City reached the Division 7 Final Four last season and moved up to Division 6 this season.
Almont – which lost to Ovid-Elsie (44-21) in last year’s Division 6 pre-district contest –finished as the state runner-up in 2019 and 2023 in Division 6 and reached the Final Four back in 2014. The Raiders were also regional finalists in 2008 to start their run.
Almont has also been to the postseason 16 straight times and in 19 of the past 20 seasons.
Junior Brody Corneau opened the scoring with a 67-yard
