Much of Frederick County’s foundation is tied to farming. The fertile soil, abundant water, and temperate climate attracted many of the early settlers to the county. Many of the towns in the county were first created to support the farms in the area, either providing them with needed supplies, purchasing their harvests, or transporting their goods to other towns and cities.
The Joseph Ogle Farm was created before there was a Frederick County. The Maryland Historical Mapping website notes that Joseph Ogle obtained the first land tract in the Graceham/Rocky Ridge area when it was still part of Prince Georges County. It is now one of the oldest farms in Frederick County.
