HUNTINGTON — Marshall University football coach Tony Gibson took a call from Ferrum College earlier this week. The Panthers' football coach, athletic director and other community members plan to make a trip to Huntington for the annual "75" game on Saturday at noon against James Madison.
The game honors lives lost in a plane crash on Nov. 14, 1970. Marshall lost 75 players, coaches, media, community members, friends and family. Among the Thundering Herd were former Ferrum players and Marshall coach Rick Tolley, a former Panthers assistant.
It gave Gibson time for pause during his weekly media availability. Since the beginning, he’s held the honor of coaching a program that once rebuilt from nothing.
