Despite lightning delays, Class AAA No. 5 Nitro won a senior-night tussle against the No. 8 Greenbrier East Spartans on Friday, 23-6.

Had it not been for a turf field, it’d be a game built around three yards and a pound of mud. Nitro finished with 225 rushing yards and held Greenbrier East to 50 on 29 carries. The Spartans were forced to throw in a downpour, garnering a pair of explosives for 138 yards. Once rain cleared, Nitro tallied 138 passing yards on eight throws.
