WAUSAU − Aspirus Health has announced the opening of a new obstetric emergency department at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Birthing Center.

The department, located at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Birthing Center, is the first of its kind in the area, according to a community announcement.

The department is staffed 24/7 by board-certified OB/GYNs and is designed to provide specialized care to expectant and postpartum mothers facing emergencies.

Specialized care for expectant and postpartum mothers

The department is intended for women who are at least 20 weeks pregnant and experiencing pregnancy-related concerns such as bleeding, abdominal pain or dizziness. It will also serve women who have recently delivered and are experiencing symptoms of pre-eclampsia, such as headache, vision changes
