NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) -- The number of flu cases is starting to inch upward, according to data from the New York State Department of Health.
It's no shocker. Every year, as the temperature starts to drop, flu cases gradually go up. Last week, labs confirmed 1,332 flu cases to the New York State Department of Health, a 49% increase from the previous week (896).
It's just a start. The acme of flu cases in 2024 happened in late January, early February, as did the number of hospitalizations for the flu. But recent numbers show that the annual hump of flu cases is starting to creep upward.
Last year, New York State dealt with its worst flu season in history, with 25 children dying of flu-related causes. The U.S. had its own record last year with 216 children dying of flu-related causes. A
