Idon’t normally do this, but with deer season now upon us, I thought I’d share this column I wrote nearly 20 years ago, as it appeared in the Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, edition of the Grand Forks Herald.
All these years later, the column still resonates, I think.
As friends and family gather this weekend in hunting camps across the Northland, chances are most of them at some point will raise a toast to camp members no longer with them.
It should be noted that my cousin Darryl, who’s mentioned prominently in the column below, died in July 2024 at the age of 81.
This weekend and always, remember the stories – and cherish them.
Deer season is a memorable time of year, a tradition that brings friends and family together.
