On the same day that Amarillo High's football team was forced to vacate six wins from the 2025 campaign, the team miraculously landed a spot in the playoffs.

Friday morning, AISD announced that the UIL had ruled one of the Sandies' players ineligible , causing the team to forfeit all six wins the player participated in this season. That dropped the group's record from 7-2 and 4-1 in District 2-5A Division I play to 1-8 and 1-4 in district play.

The ineligible player didn't participate in Amarillo High's contest against Caprock, meaning Chad Dunnam's team kept its win against the Longhorns.

Despite the devastating blow to the Sandies' season, the group still had a chance to make the postseason heading into its Friday night rivalry matchup with Tascosa. Originally, both teams sat at 4
