Controversial plans for 45 homes on a farmer’s fields have been waved through - despite concerns over traffic dangers.

The development on the edge of Sandwich, which also includes a 66-bed care home, was approved by Dover District Council (DDC) last week.

The agricultural fields earmarked for the project are located on the north east side of Deal Road, next to Sandwich Technology School, and are roughly the size of five full-sized football pitches.

Thirty-eight residents objected to the outline application - with many airing concerns over traffic - but DDC members overwhelmingly voted it through after Kent County Council (KCC) highways officials said the scheme was acceptable.

The 45 properties will be a mix of one-bedroom flats and two, three and four-bedroom houses.
