When Canada falls silent to remember on Tuesday, one Brockville family will have more to remember about a hero of the Second World War.

Brockville-born Signalman Sidney Patrick Larocque, who was killed in action in France on Aug. 26, 1944 less than a month shy of his 25th birthday, is among the local heroes commemorated in the Remembrance Day banners lining Brockville’s downtown streets ahead of Tuesday’s Remembrance Day observance.

But while his name and image proudly fly on that banner urging the generations to remember, his family has had many questions about their late ancestor, beyond the date and place of his death.

“All we knew was that he landed in France and he was killed,” said Bob Larocque, Sidney’s nephew.
