A person and a dog were hit by a vehicle and killed on Friday in Somersworth, New Hampshire, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, Somersworth police said.

The crash was reported about 4:40 p.m. on Old Rochester Road near Hickory Lane, officials said. The pedestrian who'd been hit was unresponsive and not breathing, and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save his life.

The dog was also pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The driver wasn't found to be impaired; police were still investigating the crash as of Saturday, and anyone with information about what happened was asked to call 603-692-3131 or to reach out to the department's anonym
