Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained minor injuries during a face-off with suspected cattle smugglers in the Bishalgarh sub-division under Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Friday.

The police detained one person for interrogation in connection with the incident, though no arrest has been made yet.

“The BSF personnel were not in an operation to apprehend the smugglers. It was coincidental that they came across the group on their way back from Sepahijala district. Naturally, the BSF team didn’t have sufficient strength to intercept them. Fearing that they would be arrested and the livestock recovered, the smugglers launched an attack on the BSF personnel. But they could not carry out the smuggling bid,” a BSF source informed.
