PITTSFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) - Pike County’s $1.8 million deficit is forcing the county board to consider deep budget cuts – and the latest victims could be local animals.
The Pike County Animal Shelter posted a plea for help to Facebook Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The shelter’s part-time staff are not sure what the new budget will look like or even if they will still have jobs at the shelter next month, but they are still focused on finding each animal a forever home.
“We don’t know what’s going on, being in limbo has affected us hard — it’s affected my employees and the warden and I, and we’re just trying to do what we can, like I said all of our main concern is these animals, so we’re doing everything we can to get them into good homes or a rescue,” said Terri Lucas, Pike County Animal Shelter
