Edward Robert “Bob” Barrett of York turned 98 years old this summer. He is believed to be one of the last remaining World War II veterans living in Livingston County and he said he is thriving.

Barrett enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was called to action in January 1945. When he went to enlist, he was told to come back because he was underage and he didn’t have his birth certificate. He relayed the message to his mother who later produced the certificate for him. To his surprise, his name was not Bob.
