DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — One driver is dead and a passenger is injured after a crash in Dorchester County on Friday morning.

Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on U.S. 17 Alternate (Walterboro Road) near Clubhouse Road.

Pye said a 2022 Ram pickup truck and a 2003 Chevrolet sedan were heading south on U.S. 17 Alternate when the Chevrolet attempted to turn left into a private drive as the Ram pickup truck was attempting to pass it. At this point, the two units collided.

The driver of the Chevrolet died, and a passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The Ram driver was not injured, Pye said.

He added that the crash is still under investigation and referred questions regarding the identity of the deceased driver
