Three members of a family died, and three others were seriously injured on Saturday in Odisha's Cuttack after a portion of a building collapsed onto an adjacent house in Buxi Bazar area, according to police. The affected family was living in an asbestos-roofed house next to the old apartment building, where the incident took place at Mani Sahu Chhak.
Emergency services responded quickly after the balcony of the apartment gave way, falling onto the nearby house.
All six victims were rescued by Fire Service personnel and transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead, police said.
The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Abdul Jalil, his 30-year-old son Abdul Zaheed, and the latter's 5-year-old son Abdul Mujahid.
