NORTH PORT, Fla. ( WWSB ) - At a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 7, Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) officials unveiled plans for a new hospital campus — it will be the city’s first acute-care hospital, and the third hospital SMH has built in its 100-year history.
“This is a historic milestone for our health system, North Port and the south county region, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate this landmark moment than during the week of Sarasota Memorial’s centennial,” said Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder.
The hospital will offer intensive care, surgical care, and emergency care and will be located on the east side of Sumter Boulvevard, near the I-75 interchange.
The new hospital is said to be completed by 2028 with a flexible design to add more capacity in the future if needed
