SCITUATE, Mass. —
The Scituate Police Department rescued a turtle-shaped ocean tracking device launched by Newton, Massachusetts middle school students after it washed ashore on Wednesday.
"Pablo the Turtle" is a GPS-equipped surface drifter that scientists use to gather real-time data.
The project was part of a climate and oceanography research project at the Wellan Montessori School.
"Pablo" records location data for about 6 months, which helps both scientists and students better understand ocean currents and climate change.
