WAIANAE, Hawaii (Island News) – A 65-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in a private driveway near Hale Wai Vista on Friday evening.

According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), the incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. when an unidentified driver traveling southbound within the driveway hit the pedestrian near Farrington Hwy.

The driver then turned onto Farrington Hwy and continued westbound without stopping to help or give information.

The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition where he later died from his injuries. There were no crosswalks for pedestrian traffic in the area of the collision.

Authorities stated that speed doesn’t appear to be a factor, and it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. This marks Oahu’s first non-traffic
