A 3.3-magnitude earthquake, at a depth of 7.4 miles, was detected at 8:19 a.m. Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter was 37 miles south of Whites City near the Texas border, southeast of Carlsbad Caverns National Park, in a region known for occasional low-level seismic activity.

It shook parts of Eddy County, but there were no reports of damage or injury.
