Thirty-two area veterans were recognized Saturday during the annual Quilts of Gratitude ceremony at the Anderson Building.

The Emporia Regional Quilt Guild presented each veteran with a handmade quilt as a token of appreciation for their service. Since the event began several years ago, more than 500 quilts have been designed and hand-stitched for veterans.

Family and friends gathered to watch as each quilt was displayed, folded, and presented by local scouts. Organizers said many of the quilts will likely become cherished family heirlooms passed down through generations.
