CAMDEN, Texas (KETK) - Residents south of the Carter Lake Dam near Camden in Polk County are urged to evacuate from the area immediately as the dam has been compromised, according to county officials.
"The Carter Lake Dam in Camden has been compromised. It is our understanding that there is damage to the embankment of the dam," Polk County Emergency Management said on Saturday. "The dam property owners are currently assessing the risk of a potential breach."
Polk County officials said that residents near Henry Darden Rd, Marie Rd, Community Dr, Bo Peep, Herb Collins Rd and Girard should evacuate because they are in the path of a potential flood if the dam ends up breaching.
