LORMAN, Miss. — Southern allowed 21 points in the third quarter after trailing 14-10 at halftime.

That slide, spurred by self-inflicted issues, was at the root of the Jaguars' 35-17 defeat to Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon at Spinks-Casem Stadium.

Getting the ball to open the second half, Southern had a chance to strike first.

Running back Barry Remo started the drive well with a 5-yard carry. Then, center Juan Gonzales was flagged for a false start to push the team back where it started, making it second and 10 from the 31.

Remo ran again for 5 yards and then was stopped on third and 5.
